Violin Teacher

Genevieve Joshi

B.V.Sc., Ph.D., Suzuki Violin Teacher

Genevieve learned violin under the Suzuki method as a child from the age of 9. During her school and high school years she loved participating in vocal and chamber groups at school and regionally. She progressed well and graduated with ‘Book 10’ at the age of 16. She also studied under the traditional AMEB method as a mature age student, while studying Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney. After graduating and practicing as a veterinarian for a few years, Genevieve pursued her interest in wildlife conservation and completed a PhD in reproductive biology. She then spent 3 years working on feline reproduction at a renowned zoo in the US. After meeting her husband, Genevieve moved back to Australia to start a family.

The birth of her two children was a turning point as she developed a keen interest in children’s education. Genevieve served as a Director of the Board for a boutique Montessori pre and primary school for four years. Both her children began to learn the violin from the age of 3 with the Suzuki method. Genevieve’s passion for Suzuki music education was reignited with the realisation that teaching music was a way for her to contribute to the positive growth and development of many other children and families.

Genevieve believes that music forms a connection with the heart and the ability to play an instrument, like a language of the heart, allows us to access and express our inner-most selves. Nurturing a love of music is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give their child. It is a gift that lasts a lifetime.
