Genevieve Joshi
B.V.Sc., Ph.D., Suzuki Violin Teacher
Genevieve learned violin under the Suzuki method as a child from the age of 9. During her school and high school years she loved participating in vocal and chamber groups at school and regionally. She progressed well and graduated with ‘Book 10’ at the age of 16. She also studied under the traditional AMEB method as a mature age student, while studying Veterinary Science at the University of Sydney. After graduating and practicing as a veterinarian for a few years, Genevieve pursued her interest in wildlife conservation and completed a PhD in reproductive biology. She then spent 3 years working on feline reproduction at a renowned zoo in the US. After meeting her husband, Genevieve moved back to Australia to start a family.
The birth of her two children was a turning point as she developed a keen interest in children’s education. Genevieve served as a Director of the Board for a boutique Montessori pre and primary school for four years. Both her children began to learn the violin from the age of 3 with the Suzuki method. Genevieve’s passion for Suzuki music education was reignited with the realisation that teaching music was a way for her to contribute to the positive growth and development of many other children and families.
Genevieve believes that music forms a connection with the heart and the ability to play an instrument, like a language of the heart, allows us to access and express our inner-most selves. Nurturing a love of music is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give their child. It is a gift that lasts a lifetime.
My Commitment to Teaching
- It is my pleasure to teach violin, to the best of my ability, using the Suzuki method and philosophy to you and your children
- I will remain a teacher member of the Suzuki Talent Education Association of Australia (NSW) and keep my Suzuki Violin Teacher qualifications current through continuing professional education
- I believe that every child has great potential for talent, musical or otherwise, and I hold high expectations that each student will discover their full potential
At any time, if you have questions about the Suzuki method, or about any thing related to your child’s developing musical ability, please do not hesitate to ask. We are here for the purpose of supporting you and your child on this beautiful journey together.
Nurture by Name, Nurture in Nature
Genevieve has been a guiding light throughout our musical journey this past year. She has been instrumental (pardon the pun) in building Kalai’s confidence and has been a constant source of encouragement and support, never once failing in her positive approach and gentle teaching style. We love our weekly lessons and can’t recommend Genevieve enough!
A Beautiful Way to Learn
My daughter loves her lesson each week. Genevieve is a calm, encouraging and supportive teacher always looking for the best way to teach each student, and making each lesson fun. I am finding the Suzuki method a beautiful way to learn. Becoming immersed in a piece of music brings such joy. I highly recommend Genevieve.
I Enjoy My Lessons
I enjoy my lessons with Genevieve. She keeps things interesting and is very encouraging when I have difficult passages to work on.
Naturally Happy and Calm
Genevieve has a naturally happy and calm demeanour that children are drawn to. Always supportive and encouraging, her attention to detail and thorough preparation for each lesson builds consistent improvement in students. Genevieve’s passion for music and young people is always evident and we thoroughly recommend her.
